Related: About this forumLooking for recipe: cornish game-hen in may wine.
Decades ago I had a cookbook called 'The Foodstamp Gourmet'. It contained a dozen or so yummy recipes, all quite cheap to make. One of my favorites was corning game-hen in may wine. I have not made it in years and my copy of this cookbook is long gone. (Worse, that book sells on e-bay for far more than I am willing to pay). I wish to make this dish again, does anyone here have access to this recipe?

(31,170 posts)You'd have to register to message them, but they might be willing to send you the recipe from the book:

You might also try reading through a few "Coq A Vin Cornish Game Hen" search result pages and see if anything looks familiar.

(50,130 posts)If all else fails, you might be able to get it through your library. They can request it through inter-library loan system. The author is William Brown; it was published in 1971.
Best of luck!

(10,558 posts)I bought that book from a bargain bin for a couple of bucks back around 1980. The few recipes in it are as advertised: cheap and VERY yummy. Perhaps the artwork is what has turned this cookbook into a collectible. On a side note, I used to know the real Fat Freddy, (he is shown on the cover of the book). He lived here in Tacoma for a while before moving back east to hang with the band The Black Crows. Freddie was way cool and little changed from the comic-book character which was based on him.

(10,558 posts)I met Freddie in the early '90s at a Rainbow Valley fest. He claimed to be the inspiration for the Fat Freddie of comic book fame. I never thought to question him on this, he did look the part and had a card....soooo ....I took him at his word. We maintained an acquaintenceship for about a decade before he left Tacoma. Last I heard from him he said he was hanging with the band "The Black Crows" somewhere back east, Georgia maybe.
Fat Freddie was quite the character, always broke but quite warm and freindly, always willing to share what little he had. He would always turn up at pro-legalization rallies (like Hempfest) as a minor celebrity signing autographs and smoking whatever was offered him. I wish I could ask him about THAT cat, I regret that I never thought to when he was around.
