What's for Dinner, Sat., July 20, 2019

Appetizer is artisan cheese and crackers. I bought the cheese at the farmer's market, and it's made right here in NJ.

Pasta and a salad.

The RG made the pasta, which will be served at room temperature, using sausages from the Portuguese place plus some I bought as breakfast sausage. He used herbs from the garden and yellow zucchini plus a few other vegetables. The cut of pasta is seashell.

I bought a head of lettuce from the farmer's market. It was beautiful when I bought it but it got so hot from being left in my vehicle while I stopped for a few errands that some of the leaves turned dark on the edges. Literally, when I took the lettuce out of the plastic bag, the leaves were hot. I put the leaves in ice cold water and it's from that that I made the salad.

Dessert will be summer fruit--cantalope, blueberries, and raspberries.

We live next to one of the best kept secrets in Tulsa. A little gas station, run by a Muslim guy who makes the best fried catfish this side of the Mississippi and his fried chicken would make my grandma cry. We get 2 filets and 4 wings. I made tabbouleh and mac-n-cheese for sides. Dessert is mini peach pies, since there are only 2 of us, I make pies that way and freeze them.

I don't go to Tulsa often, but I do go through there sometimes and that sounds like the kind of local place I look for at lunchtime.

I go to the Shout & Sack in Vinita whenever I'm going down I-44. They keep their smoker working, and I really like the smoked bologna sandwiches.

If you like MX check out Morelos grocery store/deli on Pine and Harvard. Big crowd for lunch.

fried okra, and freshly-made guacamole and chips. Odd menu mostly inspired by needing to use up produce. The chicken salad will also go to a potluck picnic tomorrow, along with no-bake cookies that I also made this afternoon.

I like this blogger's recipe: https://whiteonricecouple.com/recipes/vietnamese-chicken-salad/ and I think her story with this recipe was funny too.
