(4,756 posts)Industry-sponsored "concepts" like this never get the kind of mindshare they want - it might end up on the menu at national chains, but there aren't going to be hip, independent beefshi spots popping up in NYC or Napa.

(4,756 posts)I thought it might be somebody independent playing with a fusion of Western-style tartare/carpaccio and sushi, I'd probably at least try that...but then I looked at the site; the Potato Stick Crunch Maki (hot dog, crunchy potato sticks, and onion dip rolled up in rice and nori) sounds like something my 6-year old niece would invent

sir pball
(4,756 posts)Spam is just generic meaty-salty, when it's fried up with soy and sugar and dressed with the seaweed it actually works really well, nothing deeply unsettling in there like onion dip or thousand island dressing. The hot-dog nigiri sushi in the flyer would be almost the same if they didn't insist on Americanizing it with ketchup and mustard, blargh.
I worked with a girl from Hawaii years ago, she used to make it quite a bit for family meal...I liked it so much she got me a musibi press for Christmas

(55,016 posts)It has to be fried up just right and really crispy for me to even think of eating it. (I have texture "issues"LOL)

(4,756 posts)Definitely needs to be a bit crispy with a salty-sweet glaze for a good musubi...it's definitely not pleasant straight of the can!
