Canadian "Nanaimo bar" no bake dessert

There is a loooong article in the New York Times about the Canadian “Nanaimo bar”, no bake dessert.

You can read it here:
"A Bite-Size Square of Canada’s History, Culture and Craving:
How the Nanaimo bar, a three-layer no-bake treat from British Columbia, conquered a nation’s palate."

I spent a month there in 98. Stayed at several of the tiny islands between Vancouver Island and the mainland. We actually spent some time in Nanaimo before heading off to stay at Gabriola Island. While in Nanaimo we ate at a nice little restaurant and had a pumpkin cheesecake. It was really delicious. They even gave me their recipe. I never cared for pumpkin until then.

I always feel at home in the PNW.

I lived in Northern California for about20 years and I loved it. We left 10 years ago because I saw the problems of water and fire. Our old home burned in one of the fires in the last 2 years.

But when we went to Salt Spring Island in BC, I left part of my heart there and long to go back and stay.
