Microplaned it onto a piece of wax paper, folded that into a square then into a ziplock for keeping.

so I can and it is ok for me but don't know if the professionals recommend it

I have started to thinly peel my oranges before I eat them and then when I have enough I put the peel in my blender to a fine zest... then I store them in a jar in the fridge/freezer... I always have lots of zest on hand... discovered molasses ginger cookies are really good with some of the orange zest in them
