Now they have a Portuguese restaurant in the 'burbs, where I live. I had told the RG about it and when we were puzzled about what to do for our main meal today, he said let's try the new Portuguese restaurant out here.
It took us a while to find it due to my very, very bad memory but we did find it. Siri was a big help. Once we found it, we had to leave, though, to get wine because they have no liquor license. NJ is weird that way. Liquor licenses are very pricey and quite limited in number, however, soon we will be smokin' all the pot we want. I was curious if this restaurant was just like the ones we go to in the Ironbound section of Newark, and it was! Right down to the new immigrants--Portuguese waiters who barely speak English. And the high prices but big servings.
We had a couple appetizers, including clams casino. Cream of asparagus soup. Then chicken francese, served with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. For dessert, I had lemon mascarpone cake with blueberries and whipped cream. And the RG hard his usual favorite--flan.
That, combined with the two bottles of wine, was a terrific Sunday meal for a winter day in NJ.
p.s. PJMc, re last post on yesterday's thread: Tell the landlady that I am a fan of braised lamb shanks, too.
And as far as escargots goes, the gardener in me says it's just a damn snail. Glad you enjoyed it, though.
