Has anyone done a juice fast?

I am either going to do a full juice fast for a few weeks, or juice throughout the day, and then eat a light dinner. I'll decide which after I talk with my doctor.

Has anyone here ever done a juice fast?

1. Fruit juice is usually pretty high in calories and sugars

allbeit natural sugars if 100% juice. I don't see how that would be good for anyone unless you're constipated. If you go all vegetable juice, then why not have the satisfaction of a crunchy veggie instead of just the juice.

Sounds like a fad stupidity to me.

2. It's mostly veggie and greens, with some fruits as a rule.

And for people like me, who have problems processing raw whole veggies, it's a great way to get nutrients.

3. I did this one, once, and I lasted 9 days:

I followed the rules exactly. I like my liquids hot, rather than cold, so I sipped it all day long, hot.

After a day or so I was not hungry at all. If you should be interested to do it, and have questions, pm me.
I lost about 5-7 pounds, I don't remember, I did not do it for weight loss. And when it comes to clean insides, I think I might have been comparable to a newborn when I was done.

Don't do it if quick dashes to the bathroom are not possible.

Think more in terms of 10 days.

Really.

5. No, but I did a medically-supervised liquid thing for 3 months.

I would not recommend it, a juice fast, or any other sort of fast. I crapped up my metabolism BIG TIME in the process with a very low calorie diet. Actually, if one was morbidly obese and had conditions that were severely threatening their life, Optifast is a good way to get some weight off quickly. It's safer than bypass surgery, or a good means of getting down to a safe weight for the surgery, if that's a last resort. But, for people like me, who were borderline at the time--not the way to go. I am generally not a big fan of fasting of any sort. If you are wanting to lose weight, I recommend getting a notebook and keeping track of everything you eat, along with calories, carbs, proteins, etc. Whatever you do, don't go under 1200 calories, or you'll be in the same boat as me. It is harder than ever for me to take off all the weight I regained over the years because I lived on 800 calories/day for three months.

As for juice fasts, they are not healthy. Sure, you can get loads of vitamins and phytonutrients that way. You will not be getting all of the protein and fiber that you need to keep your body functioning properly.
