Tuna Salad recipe this week!

Since we're doing salads and picnic things as the summer winds down, we thought we'd do a recipe for tuna salad, as well! Looks like we're getting lots of mileage out of that boiled eggs video!

Again, as with many of our recipes, there is tons of space for customization in this one. If you like different herbs (dill is a great choice), change up the herbs. If you don't like boiled egg in there, leave it out! If you prefer bread and butter pickles to sour kosher dills, then switch it up! Lots you can do to change the profile. We change it up pretty frequently from iteration to iteration, just to keep things interesting.

You can also use your homemade mayo in this recipe (which we also have a video for!).

I love tuna salad and this recipe is almost a classic. Parsley is awesome but I never tried it with dill. (I'm going to try that.)

I prefer tuna salad without the chopped pickle, however I do suggest a variation on mayo. Try making it sometime with blue cheese salad dressing instead of mayonnaise. Nice!

We've crumbled feta into our tuna salad in the past for a nice sharp tang of cheese.

And, of course, tuna salad is one of those things where every family has their own recipe they love. I've seen things like curry powder, very finely shaved habaneros, pasta shells, capers, and all sorts of things that give each one an interesting and unique flavour!

STEP 1 CATS get the tuna water...always.😸😸😸.
I have been making Thai Cuke Salad alot this summer, so I have mixed the homemade salad dressing over drained albacore tuna. I don't like vinegar mix on bread, so I serve it on very crispy crackers (wasa or triscuits) or salad or hot cooked rice.

Thai Salad Dressing
1/3 c. rice vinegar*
2T granulated sugar...to taste really
1/2 t sesame oil...to taste & this adds a subtle mouth feel, subbing soy sauce, fish, or oyster sauce didn't work for me, but YMMV.
red letter flakes....to taste, I use 2/3 packs of red pepper flakes that come w/pizza. I like spicy.
Pour everything together in a container w/ a lid, shake. This keeps very well in the fridge, it hasn't lasted long enough to go bad yet.

* rice vinegar is a lower acidity 4.2% compared to white vinegar 5%. I did use white vinegar once, but found the taste too raw.

and by nightfall, those bowls would be licked clean and the cats would be comatose.

I lived for tuna sandwiches when I was a kid, they were expensive so they were a rare treat. MY own recipe is a slight variation on my mother's magazine recipe of tuna, hard boiled eggs, celery, mayo, and pepper. I like to throw in chopped scallion and minced parsley. I still don't make it very often, tuna being endangered and expensive enough that the cans have gotten too small to bother with and the cats are no longer here to lick tuna soaked kibble bowls clean.

I put the tuna mix on a slice of whole grain bread, sprinkle cheddar cheese on top and slide it under the broiler of my toaster oven. Easy hot meal.

thanks for sharing these vids.

Thanks for sharing your alternate interesting recipes, too!

Also, obviously, thanks for watching We've been having fun making them. We really just wanted to see what it would take to make a YouTube channel and teach some basic cooking skills. It's been an interesting experience so far.

We're not really using the platform to its biggest extent, yet. Maybe once we've cracked 1000 subscribers we'll get really serious about production values!
