It's not as abusive or dismissive as the title would imply. There's a lot of supportive fun among the professional hosts and the non-professional guest cooks. And, yeah, there's some epic disasters. But who hasn't screwed up the ingredients to the point of questioning if it's even edible for the local wildlife? Or dropped a laboriously done dish on the floor at some time?
Overall I'm not a big fan of any of the contest style cooking shows, especially the one with the secret ingredient and explosive smoking side effects. Yet, I cook a lot from-the-hip, so I see myself in some of the episodes in this show. Been there, done that.

(17,742 posts)if for no other reason than that they don't seem to know much about how to handle food, including cross contaminating surfaces with raw meat, chicken, etc. Bobby and Anne are brave beyond belief.

(111,359 posts)The people who learn how to cook need to be eliminated, to return on a new season of "The Best Reformed Bad Cook in the USA" or something, with the cash reward for that show.
The worst cook, the most recalcitrant to learning anything, the most dedicated food wrecker should be the last one standing and the prize should be 5 year gift certificates to a dozen take out joints.
However, I do love the first episode when they're all presenting their own specialties to the judges.

(35,392 posts)there was the "beige macaroni and cheese incident".
Of course, I also had the "pineapple upside-down cake" that I baked which I tried to salvage as being a "bundt" style cake ...

I think it's a very funny show but I have a hard time believing that some of those folks are "for real"

(33,688 posts)Anne is terrific, and she and Bobby work well together. Flay has more of a sense of humor than Robert Irvine. He got so frustrated he looked like he was going to explode a couple of times last season. Flay takes his pupils' culinary disasters in stride.
