Was at store I bought a huge roast thinking of doing it this way from now on. instead of butcher cuts steak ,My idea probably be less expensive than pre cut. Also if this works I may buy sirloin roast next time ,Any experience is helpful.

(111,383 posts)but I doubt any real butcher would recognize them as "steaks." It was quite a bit less expensive than buying steaks and I could vary the thickness according to how I wanted to cook them. Just cut across the grain and grin at your dinner guests.

(3,040 posts)Had a good episode about just this topic on good eats years ago. I never had the opportunity to do such because I usually just make steaks for myself and it would go to waste, but it is the most economical way to go about making steaks.

(12,920 posts)I was at a local grocer karns in Pennsylvania, and I saw the roast just popped into my head. Like warpy said they may not look like butcher cut but my son and his friends will eat them. Those boys have hollow legs and I do not mind.

(55,026 posts)sirloin will have a little more flavor and be less expensive, tenderloin is super tender but lacks flavor and is the most expensive beef cut.
having raised bottomless teens, I don't think feeding them tenderloin (as roast or steak) is going to be very economical.
