Cajun Crackers

Last edited Sat Feb 18, 2012, 01:25 AM - Edit history (1)

This is a recipe my brother gave me and I'm not sure where he got it. There's a lot of versions of this out on Google.

1 box Saltine crackers
1 packet ranch dressing mix
1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
1-1/3 cup canola oil

Put all 4 sleeves of crackers in a seal able container. Mix the other ingredients together and pour over crackers. Turn crackers every 15-20 min until all the oil is soaked up.

-------
I've had my brother's version before and they're addictive. Today I thought I'd make them, but only half a recipe. I'm out of red pepper flakes, so I used probably 2 tsp of cayenne pepper. I just dumped the oil, pepper and half a packet of ranch in a 1-gallon sized ziplock bag. I probably should have stirred the mix or something, but I don't think it's a big deal. Then I added the two sleeves of crackers. I also think you could get away with less oil or use olive oil too. Oh and they're not soggy either.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

I think they'd be a good party or snack treat. I read someone doing them with an Italian type of seasoning. The way I did them, the cayenne gives it a little spice, but I wouldn't call them "spicy" (I'm Cajun, so my spicy maybe a bit different than yours).

I could definitely see serving these with some sort of cheesy dip or something.
