Related: About this forumI just bought the ingredients to create a Blue Apron Meal. Here's the tally...
Spiced Pork Burgers with Goat Cheese and Cucumber Corn Salad - 4 servings
Shopped at the grocery store closest to me instead of going to the farmer's market.
Total before tax: $21.41
I already had the shallot, cucumber, mayo, red wine vinegar and all of the seasonings except the ground fennel (which they would send).
I'll be stuck with 4 extra buns (deli did not have individuals), a little arugula and goat cheese which I love and will use up. But I'll have two extra meals to eat at lunch.
I plan to try a few others at some point but my box will arrive tomorrow.

What I gather is that you are comparing the cost for a meal from a Blue Apron box. So are you buying the same ingredients for the box that's coming tomorrow?
Is the purpose to figure out if Blue Apron is worth it? If so, are you factoring in your time spent shopping?

(16,334 posts)we normally do veggie night on Mondays but I decided to look at the Blue Apron cookbook and see if there's was something that sounded good to try instead.
So I made a list for the store and bought what I needed for tonight's dinner. If I had trekked to the farmer's market, I could probably have bought smaller amounts of some things to be more efficient and cost effective (but used gas and more time). And if I didn't have a box coming tomorrow, I would have used this same trip to buy other ingredients for the week (if I were organized and planned ahead).
I guess I am saying Blue Apron is for people who want convenience and less waste. However, I am sure other recipes will cost me less if I buy the stuff myself.
Jury is still out for whether or not it's worth it to me.
