(2,016 posts)I made a veggie mac salad this morning (tomatoes, celery, Vadalia, broccoli), so I'll have that too. Probably something else, but for sure it will be cold. Just too darn hot.
ps: Speaking of hot, there wasn't much difference between the Mojave and Sonoran deserts this weekend. 120F is insanely hot. But, we ate like kings. Prime rib at a small Indian casino, almost cleaned out a sushi bar, made baby-backs on the grill. The only disappointment was going to a "gourmet" Mexican place. They dumped pounds of cheese on a crab and shrimp plate. The subtlety of the seafood was lost.

(2,302 posts)From a Cook's Illustrated recipe for chicken breast. I substitute swordfish chunks, You make a marinade from garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and thyme, separate some out and add mayo to make a dressing, and use in both a warm potato salad and over a green veg (tonight was broccoli, but I usually use French green beans).
My first REAL meal this cycle and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

(33,023 posts)Dinner was steaks from Whole Foods. The RG made them, and actually, the entire meal. There was slaw made with red and green cabbage, plus Persian cucumbers and onion. Also he made this interesting appetizer. It was served on bread: Pastrami paste with herbs, cheese, and tomato, then broiled. To me, this was really fantastic as I never get to have bread.
For dessert, we had coconut sorbet.
The best part of the meal was how the wine and the steak complemented each other. He chose a Rioja, Valserrano Gran Reserva 2008. I cannot even begin to tell you how aromatic this wine is. Bite of steak/wine. Bite of steak/wine. Heaven.
