I bought shrimp with the heads on, made some shrimp stock,

used it to make a garlic/crushed red pepper/white wine sauce for the sauteed shrimpies. Served with steamed brown rice to soak up every bit of buttery, spicy goodness. And steamed broccoli.

Died-and-gone-to-heaven good.

I did that once 25 years ago - note "once". You pay twice per pound that way. HopeHoops Feb 2012 #1
The ones with the heads on cost half as much. So it evens out. kestrel91316 Feb 2012 #2

Most of it isn't cooking stuff. Sort of like crabs.

I got wonderful stock from the heads - cooked it down to nearly nothing for the sauce >>>> awesomeness.

The shrimp for the meal cost me under $2, which is quite reasonable for 1 person these days. I don't eat much animal flesh anymore but when I do I like the good stuff.
