Related: About this forumThe little neighbor girls are coming over to make cookies Saturday...
this will be the first year for the younger one who's 3. The other one is 7 and she is much more patient and detailed than I am, placing ornaments on the tree cookies just so, and "painting" on the icing so it doesn't glob. Her cookies always look great while mine look like something a 2 year old would do. I do a basic sugar cookie (no recipe, just my nana's cookie dough) and I make about 10 different colors of the powdered sugar icing to put on top.
They like it because it's similar to playing with play dough. I like it because they get a lot of the decorating done for me! And it's fun to see what they come up with.

(2,674 posts)I remember all the good times making cookies with kids, grandkids and neighbor children. No more little kiddies around here anymore. But that hasn't stopped me, I have been making Xmas cookies for over a week. I also made sugar cookie cut-out and some gingerbread pigs and little gingerbread boys. I had to ice them by myself.
Last year I was getting over chemo treatment and did not make any Christmas cookies for the first time in over 35 years. This year I am back at it and loving every minute. Made Aunt Gail's lemon bars last night. Saving one day next week to make cookies with my granddaughter. She is away at college and she called me last week and said she was looking forward to a day of cookie making with me.

(9,833 posts)nephew (8 yrs) and niece (6 yrs) live next door. They do a lot of cooking with their grandmother and the boy is actually quite a chef. His grandmother is giving him silicone oven mitts for Christmas!
