Don't laugh at me, colleagues. I have not finished my recipes from yesterday. So much is happening with my property, garden, and school starting in only a few weeks.
So yes, ratatouille is still on the agenda.
However, I can tell you about my fabulous lunch, which I had with a former student who is going into a graduate program this fall. She is an adult student with whom I have much in common. We met at a high-quality restaurant where the luncheon buffet is well known (I mention that only because so many buffets are...well, you know). I mostly had chicken teriyaki, but there was also a roast beef dish that I liked.
The salad bar was extensive, but I mostly stuck to fruit. I had honeydew melon, grapes, and this nice combination: plantains and pineapple rings.
We had a wonderful time, and it has been the highlight of my day.
I am still missing Pinto. It's gonna' be a long time before it feels normal here. I wanted to note that there is a very thoughtful poetry thread in the Religion forum where you can post or just think about a poem that someone else has posted. I have a Leonard Cohen creation that I am thinking of posting. I have to listen a few more times to see if it's appropriate.

Got all of the branches of the cherry tree small enough to be cut with hand clippers (3/4 inch or so or smaller) chopped up today, but my saw blade broke, so it's off to Woodcraft to get a new Japanese hand saw to finish cutting the rest of the big limbs up and take the trunk down. The blade had been breaking for quite some time, after I kinked it the very first time I used it seven years back, before I realized that Japanese saws were 'pull saws', not 'push saws' - the actual cutting is done on the pullback, so the blades are thinner and more flexible. But if you try to cut with them while pushing, you can screw up the blade incredibly fast. I'm just amazed the blade lasted as long as it has.

(2,016 posts)Went to a nice Mexican restaurant for carnitas and all the trimmings. Very good margaritas. Heading back to my desert (Mojave) on Thursday, leaving the Sonoran desert for a while. Road trips....here we go.
