What's for Dinner, Sun., Aug. 9, 2015

I'm going out with some of my fellow teachers from the new university at which I am teaching. First we're going to a movie (new Meryl Streep movie), then out to dinner. Which presents a dilemma: They indicated a stop at a diner, but I don't want any diner food.

There's a very famous sandwich place in this town, so maybe I can mention that. If not, I'll prol'ly just order a beverage and have this super stuffed eggplant that the RG set up for me. I have to bake the eggplant, but the stuffing is already made.

Yeah, I'm making a red sauce (NO - I don't call it "gravy" that's something you put on mashed potatoes... it's no wonder I'm an outcast in my family.)

Sausage, meatballs, the whole 9 yahds. With rigatoni and pecorino romano on top.

Yum!

She just lost track of time or forgot. Retired after 30+ years of living by an appointment book (hairdresser) so I can't blame her.

hello, this is Martha, Jamie's twin sister. You have all been posting such loving things about my brother that I wanted to thank you for that. I hope this gets on the thread so you can all read it. I am having a celebration of Jamie's life on August 23rd at my home in Los Osos, Ca. If you are interested in attending, contact worldfamouslois on this thread of conversation about Jamie. Being his twin, my loss is huge. I can not imagine life without him in it so I will have some adjusting to do. Sure wish I had not forgotten our recent lunch date, that is for sure. Thank you once again, for your kind words. Love and good health to you all, Martha

I can't begin to contemplate the depth of your loss. With I could be there next Sunday, but I'm in Chicago.

was a wonderful person. He never hesitated to look beyond the surface of people to see the good within them and to encourage it. He was also very funny.

He will be deeply missed.

Jamie was a truly wonderful guy and became a good friend over the years, though we only saw him so seldom. But time with Jamie was quality time. I learned a lot from him. He spoke of you often and how special your relationship was.
A good and gentle soul who left his mark on those he touched.

asparagus, warm baguette, an Austrian white wine, and a Pepperidge Farm Luscious Lemon layer cake. My birthday supper. Costs damn near as much as going out, but at least I know the chef is competent!

cucumber salad, corn from the garden, and (defrosted/warmed)grilled pork loin and flat iron steak that I cook a couple weeks ago and froze. Homemade peach pie for dessert. Then a very nice nap. It's too hot to go outside and do anything. The heatwave is supposed to break on Tuesday and we are anxiously awaiting it.

sounds like a delicious meal from your garden.

As it turns out, I had cold leftovers out of the 'frig because I was so hungry when I arrived home after the movie. I had cold sole, Francese style, yellow rice with red peppers and garlic/olive oil over it, and yellow rice.

right here at home, and it will be great this winter to have all the beans, corn, peas that we put up this summer. Still hoping for a miracle with the tomatoes.

Your cold dinner sounds like a antidote to the weather.

Got some all natural beef and organic sloppy joe mix. On a jalapeno/cheddar ciabatta bun with some Zapp's Hotter Than Hot chips on the side. It's 100° outside so I don't want to heat the kitchen.

Chicken sauteed in lemon juice and olive oil with onions sauteed until caramelized over angel hair with an alfredo and tomato basil feta crumbles to taste (or not at all if you don't care for it).
