(111,332 posts)are one of the real pleasures of being a grownup. Mixed with corn (and whatever else you throw in), they become succotash, the down home treat of the northeast.
Good for him, his tastes are growing up.

(2,674 posts)I cooked some lima beans in my crockpot Sunday night. I cooked them on slow so they wouldn't burst and they were ready this morning. I added a little bacon drippings and a chicken bullion cube when almost done this morning. We ate them for lunch today along with Swedish meatballs, rice, coleslaw and sliced ripe tomatoes. Great down home meal plus I have enough lima beans left for tomorrow..
I like them green too, but the dried are my favorite. They are easy to grow, I used to always plant them in my garden. A great starter for little kids who are planting their first garden.

(4,019 posts)I remember shelling beans with my great grandmother. The speckled butter beans were my favorite to shell because they were all different and pretty. I've shelled bushels of purple hull peas too.
