When cooking hard boiled eggs, Put 1/2 inch of water in the pot, add the eggs and steam with cover on. In 6 minutes the eggs are soft boiled, in 10/11 minutes hard boiled. You will find that steam temperature stays the same, unlike boiling water. TRY IT, IT WORKS EVERYTIME.
When buying canned tomatoes. always purchase whole tomatoes, as the quality is the best. Then when you use them, cut into sizes you want.

there is almost almost always a lot of tomato paste left in the jar. Spoon it out and lay on a tray on one layer by tablespoon. Pop the tray in the freezer. When the tomato paste has frozen, put the portions in a baggie.
I find I use a lot more tomato paste since I started doing this. Sometimes, while cooking, I would think a dish might do better with a bit of tomato paste but I was loath do open up a can and waste more than half of it.
We also freeze pesto this way. My husband likes canned vegetable soups and he'll sometimes add a portion of both, still frozen, to the piping hot soup.
