OK, I'm back from Rhodey-land, and the shellfish population needs to recoup after my 10 day feast-fest. Steamer clams, quahogs, little necks, lobster, etc etc... My cholesterol level must be through the roof.
Anyway, I'm simmering cubed-up chuck roast for a hearty classic beef stew today. Damn, it's as cold here in the high desert of SoCal as it was in New England. Stew is definitely in order.
Hope all you C&B'ers had a great holiday season - I know I did!

(14,733 posts)The boy dog had another pancreatic attack, and is spending the day on IV fluids and painkillers at our vet, and both of us are too stressed out to be worrying about actually planning anything.

(14,733 posts)But we left his saline lock in, I'll run him out to the vet's for at least another half day of fluids tomorrow, at which point we have to decide if he'll be ok to stay home, or whether the vet will continue to board him the rest of the weekend. She said he's got to stick to completely bland food from here on out to avoid further attacks, since even small amounts of fatty things are triggering attacks. But he's got other issues we have to address once this attack is cleared up - he's been losing weight, he's anemic, and she wants him to get an ultrasound to look at his kidneys and liver. He's 13 now, so I guess it's a matter of time no matter what, but we'd hoped he might at least make it to the 16-20 range.

(146,218 posts)These are really hard decisions, I know. I am glad you have someone to share the burden with.

(10,291 posts)The tenders HAVE to be cooked so that's why I am making fries...I will just fry the tenders too. I am thinking of wrapping a few in bacon and see how they turn out.
I have scalloped potatoes anthem and some split pe soup that I am running over to my mother.

(146,218 posts)and I want to eat at home.
I've got the makings for chicken tostadas with refried beans or BL(A)T's, and I could go for either one. Either way, I have some wonderful peppers I want to grill.
I heard it was freezing in SoCal. I hope you are enjoying it. It is still really hot here.

enjoy the warm for me, would you? we're digging out of a cold snap and the weather tomorrow has a good chance of being shitty, but we should be back up to around 40 early next week.

(146,218 posts)It's still so hot here, much hotter than it should be. It was in the mid-90's inside the boat this afternoon with outrageously high humidity. We are in a marina doing repairs, so jumping in the water is not an option.
Enjoy your above freezing temps!

(28,478 posts)My SO eats the lion's share of our dinners, both at dinner and for his lunches. He's a sheetmetal worker and usually works up quite an appetite during his work day. However, he's had nine of the last 14 days off due to the holidays. I didn't adjust my cooking amounts to account for his not being as hungry because he hasn't been working. And so tonight we choose from:
BBQ pork chops
four cheese mac & cheese
pasta with roast beef and pepper spaghetti sauce
chicken soup
homemade pasta with roasted veggies
seafood stew
Not a bad thing, this abundance in my life, but just for tonight, I wish we had more mouths to feed!

(24,146 posts)we may get some weather tomorrow, but we're climbing out of our cold snap. i meant to make it yesterday but was just too lazy.
i think it was cher who posted a chili recipe not terribly long ago that included coffee, so i put some in the batch tonight. it was weaker than normal but we'll see if it makes a difference.

(2,012 posts)I will have little or no dinner for a while. Had shrimp, oysters, and crab at Blue Crab, trout and ravioli at Andrea's, crab bisque and fish mousse at Matt & Mattie's. And creme brulee and tiramisu. And coffee and beignets at Cafe du Monde, of course, in spite of the Sugar Bowl crowds in the French Quarter. And had to test the pralines I brought home for my friends. Y'all will understand I had to get ready to come home to Boulder where it's been between -19 and 4 above.

(20,234 posts)Unfortunately I only like most veggies when they are almost raw and still crunchy. Your post made me think of other options, though - I could dehydrate some into chips.

I had some fried clams tonight, but they were definitely inferior. I have never had clams in R.I. In Massachusetts, yes. And in Connecticut, yes. But not in R.I.
