A Porterhouse steak with the breath knocked out of it (Okay, you can say the word "seared" sparingly around it, too) is fantastic, and one of my favorite things!

and tossed over very rich tasting Romaine lettuce hearts along with a homemade balsamic and bleu cheese vinaigrette, it was delicious, fresh and yummy

I LOVE cucumber tomato salad. Add in some dill, onion and a dash of garlic, and it's great, but it was even better tossed over the lettuce.

10. Green lentils, rice and pistachios -

Equal parts lentils and rice.
Soak lentils in hot water x 30 minutes. Hold rice, dry, to the side.

Chop plenty of green herbs - parsley, basil, oregano, thyme, a bit of tarragon.
Macerate the herbs with lemon juice.
Add diced pistachios.
Add sliced fresh cucumber. Mix all and set aside.

Bring enough salted, black peppered water w/ a scoop of butter to cook the lentils and rice to a boil.
Simmer lentils and rice for ~ 20 minutes. Slow.
Add everything else.
Simmer ~ 10 more minutes or until lentils and rice are tender.
Set aside to rest.
Toss.

Dish it up with some side sauces that fit. I set out green chili sauce and soy sauce. Didn't use either. This came out fine for my taste as is.

Tonight, some guests over, but just for snacks. Guacomole, cheese and I'll see what else I can scrounge up.

12. Roasted Pear Salad and Soup

The salad has roasted pears, gorgonzola, and toasted walnuts tossed with mesclun. The dressing has balsamic, orange juice, and orange marmalade in it.

I decided to use my soup stock, so I'm making asparagus-penne soup. I'm putting parmesan rinds in the broth to make it extra rich.
