(149,699 posts)It's called "Berkeley Spaghetti Sauce" and it's terrific, plus easy to make.
And the other good thing about it is that every time you reheat it, the flavors deepen and combine.

(7,638 posts)Going to be my Christmas day addition to our very nontraditional Christmas dinner.

(10,337 posts)Three tears ago we moved to Tucson from San Jose. In San Jose we did the holiday dinners for the family for the last 20 some years but in Tucson, the family here has also done the holiday dinner tradition so, as the interlopers, we have to concede to their traditions. This left us no holiday dinners for us to prepare which sucked because I totally love pulling out all the stops for a big family dinner.
But HA! Being the family Pagan that I am, we just claimed Winter Solstice. Our family dinner tonight;
Appetizers
Home made Salmon Mousse
Smoked Trout
Challa ( a Brioche stuffed with sausage, Cheddar cheese and Jalapenos)
Several assorted cheeses
Paul Reinhart's Pain a l Ancienne, Baguettes. Made with simply flour, salt, yeast and ice cold water but they are to die for.
Assorted crackers
Main course
Standing rib roast with a Rosemary, Garlic and Dijon crust
Port wine sauce that starts with making a Demi Glace from scratch beginning with roasting beef knuckles and building from there. It took two entire days just for this!
Yorkshire pudding
Grilled Asparagus
Baked sweet potatoes
Beet salad with Oranges, Red Onions and Balsamic Dressing
Dessert
Trifle
chocolate Peanut butter cake
Wines
Cupcake Angel Food
Little Black Dress Pinot Noir
Menage a Trois Sauvignon Blanc
Jadot Beaujolais
Bogle Cab
Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau
And, this being Tucson and all,
The mandatory Jack Daniels and Capitan Morgan
Glad you asked!
And a joyous winter solstice to all!

Are you making all of this yourself?
I am truly impressed.

(35,730 posts)Now that is a terrific idea--to celebrate the solstice. Your menu is most impressive!
Re the wines, I love that Bogle cabernet and we have knocked off about 10 of the Georges Deboeuf Beaujolais since it came out. Had some last night, as a matter of fact.

(50,130 posts)I, too, love to make that kind of meal. Always did. One time I was in charge of an arts group's 15 course chinese dinner for 150 people that included the ambassador from Peoples Republic of China. That was crazy and extravagant and I went home and was really sick for a couple of days from exhaustion.
So be careful!

(10,337 posts)Asian cook books and I just bought a new gas oven with a power burner that gets hot enough to use with a wok. I try to do at least one Asian dinner per week. Stuff sure don't taste like the stuff you get at Americanized Chinese places.
