Hello all!
I think it will be garlic bread and leftover beef stew in the 'burg tonight.
Hope you are all having a wonderful day!
What's for dinner where you are?
HappyMe
(20,277 posts)Maybe I will have that. My sweetie left early this a.m. for WI. He won't be back 'til Saturday night. I don't tend to cook a bunch for myself. Garlic bread sounds just right.

Wishing safe travels for your sweetie!

(22,162 posts)The stuffed grape leaves come that way in a can. We were at my sister's in Ohio and there is a great grocery store there that sells this brand. Our shopping is very limited where we live.....so I take advantage of being at my sister's and stock up .
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)Not so few that we are starving, if you saw us, it's clear that we aren't but we don't have m,any options of different brands or really unique items. We are in the mountains in a tourist town, and everything stocked is geared towards their shopping and cooking needs.

(22,162 posts)We are in a tourist area next to a state park. The nearest large grocery store is 15 miles away and the choices are limited. There is an ALDI 20 miles away and I go there first, then sad to say, I go to a Super WalMart also 20 miles away. Whatever I can't find has to wait until I go into Pgh. (100 miles away) or my sister's (also 100 miles away).

(31,170 posts)We had a great local market for a long time, but then a regional company brought their chain store in and killed the good market's business.
I'd have to drive an hour to get to a great store, and even Wal-Mart is half an hour away.

Lucinda
(31,170 posts)I love whole grain mustards, but Bill is rabidly "pro" the yellow stuff.
I don't think I've had mustard and sage together, it feels "French"...is it?
LaydeeBug
(10,291 posts)so I decided to go with what I had there, and I had a TON of fresh sage from the farmer's market. It was AWESOME. I roasted it with root veggies and some fresh herbs (rosemary, sage, thyme). I served the meal with broccoli that I steamed with veggie broth.
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)and I do love it in sausage. Maybe I'll try growing some this year! Your recipe idea would be a great way to try it with fresh sage!

(28,791 posts)even though we rarely actually have tacos.. guacamole, chips and salsa. Fresh tortillas, leftover meat and vegies.
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)I may run out of bread, but never tortillas.
I could really go for some guacamole and fresh pico right now...

(10,170 posts)I made some extra morning star veggies sausage patties to top it off
I have some fresh apple lemon ginger juice that I am making a spritzer out of.
The first 10 days of the year are meat, chocolate and unnecessary sugar free (honey is allowed in my tea.)
Starting to munch on this as I type. yummy
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)Sweet potatoes in any form are a favorite of mine.
Is the 10 day avoidance for spiritual reasons? It seems like a really good way to start a new year!
The chocolate, sugar and meat were messing with my meditative/dream life. A very little of those items is generally okay for me, but the holidays had gotten it all out of whack. It was time to take a break from all of it to re center!
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)Sugar is the hard one for me.
Chocolate is an occasional craving and I go veggie on and off when I feel like it's time. Eight years total so far over the course of my adult life. I've been heading that way again recently, but I have been recovering from some really awful things medically, and it seems that my body still works better with animal protein.

(10,170 posts)esp among my yogi friends who are Blood type O. The blood type A's do fine and actually better without meat when they are healing and otherwise.
I have found that if I sub some nuts or protein in the afternoon when I crave sugar, the craving generally goes away. There is also a particular type of incense from Shoyeido that is a no calorie way to satiate the urge.

(20,234 posts)I mixed some of my (first) kimchi experiment into mine - mainly because I didn't think I ate enough veggies today and I didn't feel like dirtying a second plate.
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)How did you like it with the addition of the kimchi?
noamnety
(20,234 posts)I've never had kimchi before this batch I tried making so I don't know how it's supposed to taste. The fermenty part of it seems pretty strong, so toning it down a little helped. I had some tonight with a bit of mayo added in, which I'm sure would send me to culinary hell if I hadn't already been condemned to it for frying tofu in bacon grease earlier this week. I think I like the chili better just plain - but I'd do it again in a heartbeat to avoid another dirty dish!

(2,682 posts)Grilled pork chops with blackberry reduction -- quite delicious
Baked broccoli with cream cheese sauce topped with cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs (whew, no fat or calories in THAT!!!)
Caesar Salad with croutons
Home baked Hawaiian bread buns
White birthday cake with marzipan frosting. Birthday Boy's favorite.
Iced cream.
Coffee
Everything was good and made even better by the good company and friendship.

(31,170 posts)I think you're safe with the calories. I don't think any cheese calories "count" until January 5th.
It must be true, I read it on the internet(s).

(2,682 posts)I've found that pork and fruit make a good combination. My mother made pork chops with apricots and prunes. We eat pork chops and applesauce.
