(9,791 posts)I'm drooling about the Cajun food.

(22,163 posts)and I don't even want to cook that. We are under an "extreme heat" warning.

(9,791 posts)The dewpoint is through the roof and it's just plain stinkin' hot! I put a chicken in the crock pot and made some stuffing and steamed broccoli and cauliflower. I can stand having the crock pot on. The oven is off limits until Sunday when this heat goes away.

(22,163 posts)but it's so muggy. Using the crock pot is a great idea too. Much better than the oven. I have to bake an apple pie today for a naturalization ceremony party tomorrow . However, our new citizen to be is Muslim and it is Ramadan, so the celebration won't be until after sundown and we can't stay down in Pgh. for that long, due to having dogs here at home and no one to take care of them.
My kitchen will be unbearable today.

(9,791 posts)The thunderstorms haven't made their way here yet. We could get something later today.
Welcome to the new citizen!

(146,218 posts)I have a good hard sausage, some chicken, lots of rice and a few random veggies.
It's something we could eat for a couple of days, which would be nice.

(146,218 posts)I used to adore lamb, but lost my taste for it a while back. I think it might have to do with the quality of meat I was buying.
Enjoy!

(175,750 posts)Your paella sounds good also, though I don't think it's so simple.

(146,218 posts)You basically sauté the meat and veggies, add the rice and juices and put in the oven to bake until rice is done.
But it's too rocky and windy and I am afraid of having a pan full of boiling rice.
So have switched to tuna melts and potato chips (with TJ's caramelized onion dip).
But I do plan to try this paella in the near future.

(2,012 posts)Check out the NPR site today for recipes for "Savory Cakes". Think I'll try at least one using any good veggies I can get: Chickpea Flour Cake with Chard; Red Pepper and Olive Sofrito; Savory Almond Cake with Toasted Beets, Beet Greens, Goat Cheese and Asparagus.
