(272 posts)I think I'll pick up a grilled chicken and avocado sandwich at a nearby deli and indulge in one of my favorite junk foods: Cheetos. Maybe a taco and bean salad too, since that will be all the food I'll get today.

(12,253 posts)I love to eat like that, but I'd have to space it out for hours.

(20,277 posts)I haven't had Chicken Kiev in a long time. I'll have to look for it at the deli next time I shop.
I tried to make it myself once. What a mess!

(146,218 posts)Met up with a number of people we haven't seen for months and chowed down on tacos.
It's nice to be in a bigger town for awhile. They have a movie theater and are putting on a play next week!

(12,253 posts)There are so many good films out right now. We have seen "Lincoln" and "Argo" and both were great, but my favorite of the two was "Lincoln". AND, a theatre! Our Eagle Project fundraiser was last Friday night and I am almost rested up from it. In keeping with the Native American foods theme, I roasted about 4# of mixed nuts to have with cocktails (then I realized that a communal bowl would be out because of the flu and put them into little mini-muffin tin cups) made 2-1/2 gallons of venison chili, 2-1/2 gallons of butternut-apple soup for the vegans, and a mesclun salad with sliced pears, toasted walnuts and goat cheese and a honey-mustard vinaigrette dressing and thirteen pies, 7 pecan, 2 sweet potato, 1 pumpkin, 2 blueberry, and 2 blackberry. My friend Stella made bison vegetable stew and mountains of cornbread. We met our fundraising goal, had a very cool guest list, and all 70-some of us had lots of fun. What is showing at the theatre near you? Is it professional or community theatre?
Edit to add: A slideshow of the party.

(146,218 posts)Just one screen. This week is something with Tom Cruise. I am probably not going to go to that one, but will see what they have next week.
The play is "Arsenic and Old Lace". It's a benefit for a group here that sends high school students who are interested in theater to NYC for a week. Great project. It will be a single performance and will be preceded by a cocktail/hors d'ouerves party. A real social event and a rare one for me.
Looks like your big party was a great success. Kudos to you for all you put into it! Tried to guess which one was you, but I really have no clue.

(175,745 posts)In the novels (and I've read them all!), Jack Reacher is 6'5", weighs about 240 and has a 50-inch chest. He's also got dirty blond hair and ice blue ices. In other words, he's not Tom Cruise.

(35,690 posts)yellerpup, you are indefatigable! It boggles my mind that you made all those items for your fundraiser. That had to take a week of work, yes? I enjoyed the pics and getting to see you, too! Who knew a yellerpup could be such a looker! The pies looked so delicious.
Congratulations on achieving your goal. Your theater group is lucky to have you.

(12,253 posts)We met the first time because they wanted to do a reading of a play I had written about land rights manipulation in Indian Territory (1903) prior to the distribution of Dawes Rolls land allotments. The company is made up primarily of mixed blood Native Americans and open to everyone else. We are all mixed bloods. They needed a lot of help getting off the ground and I thought I could help most by devising menus that highlight traditional NA foods. That, and do the cookin'. It is exhausting but I revel in the activity and excitement. My grandpa once said, "You are the only little girl I've ever seen whose dog was better lookin." He didn't say it to me.... You should come next time.

(12,253 posts)I have struggled with plantars fasciitis for the past year and whenever you can't exercise well - I walk everywhere - the health overall takes a hit. I love your sig line, BTW. My neighbor and great friend, Philomena, could speak Gaelic with you.

(175,745 posts)After an attack of pancreatitis last summer (along with other things including pneumonia) that had me in the hospital for three weeks last summer, I have kidney disease, neuropathy, a bad knee, gout and am generally weak. At least I am eating again! At present, I am recovering from surgery to fix a detached retina and still am having trouble seeing. If I could figure out the healthcare (the ACA can't take effect soon enough!), I'd retire today.
Thanks for the comments on the sig line. I speak very little Gaelic, but I do like that line.

(12,253 posts)I'm so sorry you are having such problems. I don't know how you can keep working, but I'm glad you are able and have a choice about it. You're almost there. Take good care of yourself in the meantime.

(2,012 posts)Just saw Life of Pi; it was great and follows the book well. I think either the tiger or the orangutan (or both) should have an Oscar. Made me remember how much I love Indian curry, if it's mild enough so that my mouth doesn't burn for hours.
