WTF? Why did I not have someone tell me about these 40 years ago? A guy I work with brought me to a little mom and pop shop here in Aurora for one this past week. They used some type of flat bread, then they put on Chorizo&eggs (cooked up on the grill), a grilled ham steak, onion, avocado, tomato, cheese and chipotle sauce... Then the whole sandwich gets grilled.
This was simply an amazing treat and there are so many more variations they have to try out so give me a hand here... What are your favorites?

(146,218 posts)I am lucky to live in an area with a large Mexican population. I don't like eggs, but put chorizo in just about anything, and I will devour it.
I love a CLTA - chorizo, lettuce, tomato and avocado with a goo chipotle sauce.
Now you've gone and made me want one!

Every couple of weeks, we get take out Mexican...they offer their Tortas with choice of Carnitas, Carne Asada, Jamon, Milanesa, or Chicken. I usually end up eating the entire thing and then am just miserable because I'm so full. On average, this small husband and wife operation (5 minutes from the house!) charges about $5.50 for their Tortas.
While it's the total combination of flavors, I feel it is mostly the taste and texture of the bread...yummie.

Choice of meats - beef, pork or chicken. Broiled and sliced in strips. Or browned, diced chorizo.
Sliced avocado.
Pickled jalapenos, sliced in strips.
Shredded cabbage or lettuce.
Chipotle mayonnaise.
Lime juice.
Sometimes they have fresh watermelon juice or horchata...
