The Privilege of Mental Health JULY 5, 2016 / JOHN PAVLOVITZ

Because here’s the thing: Your mental health is a privilege. It’s gives you an advantage that many do not have. This isn’t your fault and it’s not something to feel guilty about, but as with all privilege it does come with responsibility.

Look for those of us who are hurting and move toward us. Even if we tell you we’re fine, look deeply enough to really see us. Many times you will have to overcome us just to get to us.

Especially those of you who have struggled terribly with depression and anxiety- two illnesses that seemingly go hand in hand for many of us.

I've come to the realization that mental instability of all kinds are trials that most people go through on their way to an awakening. It may be something that can take a lifetime to work through, or possibly many lifetimes. But that is our curriculum. That is what we are here to do. As painful as it can be, you have to keep going, you have to keep working, you have to keep trying. Don't give up. You are on the path. Keep putting one step in front of the other.
