Read an article on Leslie Elder this morning, and was dismayed.

The current Obama administration has not done a good job of educating the public on Affordable Care Act, in the midst of all the controversy and back biting, particularly what it means to people with life threatening medical conditions. Perhaps if our elected officials stop trying to win for their party, and focus on the fact that peoples lives hang in the balance, Leslie Elder would have known where to get help. Had Leslie Elder been aware of where to get health care for pre-existing conditions, she almost certainly would be alive today.

The Affordable Care Act, which takes full effect in 2014, was supposed to save people like Elder (with pre-existing conditions and no medical coverage) in the interim by way of high-risk pools, also known as the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan or PCIP.

If you are sick and have no health care coverage, you need to read this: Aware of 'no options,' woman dies fighting for medical coverage - CNN.com. You are not out of options, go to https://www.pcip.gov/. Please spread the word, it could save lives.

But, luckily, I am very healthy. I am watching how the Affordable Care Act will affect my status very closely, I cannot afford insurance at the individual rates offered right now, unless I give up eating organic, buying anything for entertainment, going out with my friends, and probably my cable and cell phone. No thanks, rather not enrich a insurance company for just in case, just yet. But, as I approach forty, I worry...I will continue to exercise and eat right, and hope for insurance I an actually afford to purchase.
