My wife was out of town for 2 days and I wasn't even tempted.

To all of you in early recovery, there's hope! When my wife used to travel, it was the perfect excuse to get totally hammered. Even after I had quit, until recently I would think about sneaking some booze the whole time she was gone. Then something happened about six months ago. I rarely have urges and don't miss it. So hang in there guys! If I can do it, you can too. It's just takes time.

Ugh. Drinking to get hammered sucks! It feels awful and is a waste of precious time.

I understand addictions. I'm addicted to a lot of things too. Fuck drugs, unless taken in moderation. What a waste of time and money. Take up another form of hobby and make that your addition. You might find as I did and many of us have, that you're good or maybe exceptional at something else. And that something else will run in direct conflict with getting hammered all the time.

And I've spent my time productively doing other things. Thanks for the advice.

It took at least a year before I stopped having cravings to smoke, but I can honestly say I have no interest at all in smoking any longer. I'm glad it's worked that way for you with booze.

Seriously, good for you for not losing your will power. I quit smoking 20 years ago, and while difficult at first, it was well worth it.

I just passed 29 years alcohol free in October. Funny thing is for the last 7 years I have been working 1800 miles away from home. I live downtown and I last counted 8 bars within staggering distance of my apartment. I only go to one of them because they make a good black and blue bacon burger. They only have Pepsi products though so that is a downer. I found the further I get from the last drink it seems to get easier till you don't really think about it anymore, at least in my case that's true. Some still struggle so you mileage may vary.
