Dr. Who series ends February 1st. Last chance to see the Van Gogh episode on Netflix.

I have been plowing through Dr. Who, just finishing the fifth season. I'm not going to finish it in time (8 seasons in all) so will seek the rest out elsewhere. Lots of wonderful silliness with the Daleks and Stone Angels, and then I stumbled on the most powerful poignant episode where The Doctor and Amy visit Van Gogh who is poor, manic, and struggling with life and his own demons. In the end, the good Doctor takes Van Gogh for a ride in the Tardis to visit his work in a Paris museum in the year 2010. Here is that visit.

The story ends with reaffirming that Van Gogh took his own life at the age of 37 at a very low point in the manic cycle, but knowing he had seen his magnificent work embraced by the world. Really a moving episode.

Season 5, episode 10.

Feel very lucky that I was able to go to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. My favorite painting, "Crows over Wheat Field," was there. It is even more moving in real life.

If anyone deserved a peek at their future, it was that tortured soul. I have never seen his work assembled and exhibited, and it took my breath away. You can count yourself very lucky indeed to have had that wonderful opportunity.
