Detectorists
This is a delightful and gentle comedy from BBC. Below are some reviews. Well written, funny and a great cast. Season 1 currently streaming on Netflix.
Ellen E. Jones of The Independent said that while the show "requires some patience ... it has turned out to be one of the best new sitcoms of the year".[24]
In the US media, The New York Times writer Mike Hale describes Detectorists as a "distinctive creation - not for everyone, but bound to be fiercely loved by those who fall into its rhythms".[25] Robert Lloyd of the Los Angeles Times "can't recommend it enough", saying: "Like the ordinary lives it magnifies, Detectorists has the air of seeming to be small and immense at once, to be about hardly anything and almost everything. It is full of space and packed with life."[26]

(17,276 posts)We've watched the whole season. Hope they make more! The main character, "Andy", is also the writer and producer.

(20,886 posts)I love seeing these wonderful character actors in leading roles and getting the girl. I absolutely adore Toby Jones.
By the way, I learned that "Becky" is Diana Riggs' daughter. Riggs will be making an appearance in season two as the mother to her on and off screen daughter. Should be fun.

(1,945 posts)While watching I kept looking at her thinking 'They should so a better remake of Avengers and she should be Mrs Peel'. Lol, the resemblance is striking.
Back to the topic, I watched this over the weekend and loved it too. I'm so glad there will be another season.

(1,945 posts)Mackenzie Crook, who plays Andy, also played the part of one of the two goofy pirates in Pirates of the Caribbean', the one with the fake eye. It's nice to see him getting to be a regular and sympathetic, imo, person.

(20,886 posts)Of course, it helps that he is the writer and producer on this series. One way to get out of being typecast.
