Sharknado!!! (So bad, it's good).
Streaming on Netflix.
Now, I understand there is a limited audience for this kind of movie, but I found it absolutely hilarious.
Anyone else seen it?
Sharknado
2013TV-14
1hr 27m
When a freak hurricane swamps Los Angeles, thousands of sharks are swept up in tornadoes and deposited all over the city, where they terrorize the shocked residents. Among them is bar owner Fin, who must rescue his estranged wife and daughter.

I may have to give it a try!!!

(146,218 posts)Give it a try and let me know what you think.
It's particularly funny if you are familiar with Los Angeles.
That is possibly the worst movie I've ever seen! It has everythingbad acting, bad special effects, terrible plot, bad writing, bad fake sharks, but the continuity alone is enough to make you cry.
The beach scenes are all over the place. Waves from Hawaii. Flood footage fom what looks like Colorado, or it could be New Orleans. Hurricane footage from Florida.
I mean, what's not to like?
cbayer
(146,218 posts)But did you not laugh your head off the whole time?
And what's with the opening scene?
NV Whino
(20,886 posts)But John Heard was so bad he might have actually been soused. In fact, I can't imagine doing that movie any other way.

(146,218 posts)I don't know how they did this without laughing out loud.

(20,886 posts)Just to see if they have a bloopers reel.
cbayer
(146,218 posts)They could probably make a whole sequel with the bloopers, lol.

(146,218 posts)I got to Sharknado because:
1 - There are very few movies I can stream on Netflix in Mexico
2- Rotten tomatoes critic reviews were good
3- Rotten tomatoes general audience reviews were terrible.
I thought, yup, that looks like one for me.
Spirochete
(5,264 posts)It just sounded so weird, I had to watch it. Besides, I'd watched Sharktopus a little while back, and got a good laugh out of that, too.

(5,264 posts)It's a ludicrous movie. I always like the horror comedies, like Black Sheep, Severance, Tucker and Dale vs Evil, etc.
cbayer
(146,218 posts)morning to see if I could get the Tucker and Dale movie. Quite a coincidence there.
But you are a spirochete and may have invaded my brain in order to take over some of my thought processes!
Spirochete
(5,264 posts)On the other hand, I could just be tossing out random weirdness, and it coincides with some of yours.
Netflix is pretty restricted in Mexico, is it? Why is that? Is Botched available? That's another demented horror/comedy. I'm not on Netflix any more, at least for a while, so I don't know what's playing on there now.

(146,218 posts)I think it has to do with licensing fees or something, but I spend about an hour a day researching movies to see what I can get on Netflix and it isn't much.
If I use a VPN, I can trick it, but the "box" attached to my TV won't let me use a VPN.
I can watch pretty much anything on my computer, but we like to sit back and watch a movie or two in the evening on the "big" screen (which is pretty small, but bigger than my computer).
Nope on Botched. I like documentaries, indie films, stand up comedy and weirdness like Sharknado. My husband likes thrillers, action and pretty much anything with a detective in it.
So we have a wide field to search.
Spirochete
(5,264 posts)but I had no idea a Roku box could be restricted according to where you are. Seems to me anything available on the computer would be available on the box. Guess i learn something new every day.
Some of the weirdest movies I've ever seen were some of the David Lynch stuff, of course. Naked Lunch was beyond weird. Existenz, another Cronenberg movie, was pretty strange too. Harmony Korine has made some weird ones, like Gummo, Julen Donkey Boy, and Mr. Lonely.

(146,218 posts)You can use a VPN, so that other computers see an IP address in the US, but Roku (or in my case Samsung and Wii) can't accept a program that will divert to a VPN.
Love David Lynch. Just checked and I could rewatch Twin Peaks, which might be fun, but none of his movies.
And I can get Existenz, which I have never seen!
Not a single Harmony Korine, though.
Did you like Trollhunter? Zombieland?
Spirochete
(5,264 posts)and was disappointed compared to what I expected. But i was pretty tired when I watched it. Zombieland I have - not on BluRay, just DVD.
13 Moons and 11:14 were both pretty good. Some of Peter Jackson's old stuff- before LOTR - were insanely over the top with gore and weirdness. Bad Taste and Dead Alive (aka Braindead) come to mind.

(146,218 posts)I'm trying to start a Sharknado cult.
PatSeg
(47,452 posts)to get so much unsolicited publicity. Morning Joe talked about it for at least a couple of weeks and I was surprised there was no encore airing of the movie. I'll get back to you after I watch it and may join your cult.
