I'm thinking of joining Netflix live streaming...

I get a free one-month trial, so may join toward the end of the August when I have some time off to play.

What sorts of things will I be able to see?

I like Doc Martin the series, but liked the 2 movies even better. Nova and some other PBS stuff. Will I be able to see any of those?

Tons of kids shows.

Tons of movies of all genres that weren't major blockbusters, but they're not in any way B movies.

Tons of TV shows of all genres except game shows.

Lots of anime.

Lots of classic movies.

Lots of B horror.

I like many documentaries, most classic movies, old tv shows and many movies that weren't blockbusters, but are good (often better) than blockbusters!

That oughta do it, then

Orange is the New Black and House of Cards.

If you go to their site, you can see what is available streaming. There are also some great sites like, abetterqueue.com that looks at rotten tomato ratings of movies streaming on netflix.

If you like documentaries and indie movies, you will have more than enough to watch. What you won't get are many current box office hits.

Are you going to get a box so you watch on your regular TV?

Poirot, Inspector Lewis, Sherlock, Miss Marple (both Joan Hickson and the 2004 series), the Fall (Gillian Anderson), the list goes on...

On edit: forgot to mention my new fave, Merlin (watching it with my 12 y.o.).

i've watched all of doc martin streaming and much more british television, which i have a penchant for. lately they've added a bunch of Nova. there's a lot, lot to choose from and i have a feeling you'll want to keep it after your free month runs out.

lots of British TV, lots of foreign TV.

The people who post nasty messages on Netflix's Facebook page are mostly spoiled adolescents who are indignant that they can't stream movies that are still in theaters or the blockbusters they've already seen twice or because Netflix hasn't bought the rights to Jericho, which has acquired an unexpectedly rabid set of followers.

as far as a regular box to plug into, I have a regular digital tv that doesn't get anything right now because the signal from PBS is too weak. The roadrunner guy that hooked me up left me a cable to plug into the tv. I'm pretty sure he said that if I plug it directly from the modem I'll get better quality than through my laptop. Although I was too excited about it all to be sure what he said once he'd left.

It's important to rate all the movies you see. They end up recommending lots of excellent moves you've never heard of.

Netflix streaming is well worth the price. For the price of... I dunno, what can you buy for 8.99?

My only... gripe? Maybe more like peeve, is the indexing of content. I find I spend a lot of time looking for something to watch. If I know the title of something I want to see it is easy. But looking for stuff can sometimes be a challenge. I know there are probably 100's of things I would like to watch on Netflix, if I had the time...

It really is such a trivial gripe that it barely registers as a complaint.

Does anyone know of any good indexing sites, or have tricks they learned to parse through all the content?

Unless I already have something in mind, it is hard to go through. I don't even know where everything is, other than whatever they're presenting to me on the home page.

I watched Doc Martin movie #1. Tonight I'll probably watch #2. I'm also watching the PBS series "Grand." It's nice that it's ready and waiting wherever I left off when I log in

I was going to wait to the end of the month, but we had a really rainy day with only chores to do, so...

Is look up the kinds of movies you like on google, then see if the title is at Netflix. I get all confuserated too, sometimes taking a half hour just scrolling through the netflix library. Too much to choose from, I love/hate that.

But if I like a particular actor, director, I look around on my computer first.
