Hemlock Grove The new netflix production...
Was KILLER!!!!! LMAO!!!! It is a supernatural genre that was absolutely riveting!!
I blasted through the whole 13 episodes in a back to back marathon.I then watched the last couple of episodes with my Husband has he caught up after falling asleep last night. (The Wuss) lol!
I'm telling ya if Netflix Studios keep this kind of quality work up With "House Of Cards" And" Hemlock Grove" They are well on their way to making the cable channels premium and otherwise obsolete.

(4,225 posts)One of the many cool features in this series is all the homages it gives to the classics and more recent Horror flicks Like the newer version of " The Haunting" Starring the same actress LOL! That one was very subtle but funny. .
Another One of the more obvious ones being Mary Shelly.
They also have some new twists on the old legends which keeps everything interesting and fresh. We Really enjoyed it and we consider
ourselves connoisseurs of this genera.
I hope you find it has intense, fast moving, and entertaining as we did GentryDixon.
Hope you decide to share your thoughts here on "Hemlock Grove"

Glorfindel
(9,729 posts)Famke Janssen is astonishing...so menacing and yet so maternal and even sexy at the same time. The only jarring note for me (and it's a very, very small one) was that the gypsy boy looked so much like Daniel Radcliffe that I kept thinking "Harry Potter" and being pulled out of the moment. Otherwise, it was a well-done, sophisticated, and surprisingly scary production. Like you, I watched the whole series this past weekend. I'll probably watch it again in a few months' time. I'd love to see a sequel.

(4,225 posts)And she has quite a unique beauty too.
Oh Hell yeah If I had kept thinking Harry Potter look alike that would have thrown me off too.
I am right there with you Glorfindel! I hope they do another season two, three, LOL!
Its a very visceral experience at times though! GREAT writing,Acting,

(4,225 posts)Nip Tuck was a killer series in its own right! Didnt she sleep with her son in Nip Tuck???
Stinky The Clown
(67,798 posts)Her ex-husband was a plastic surgeon and created her as his masterpiece. The only flaw was that her vagina was too shallow to take an average sized penis, hence her desire for smaller equipment. Her son was obviously not her biological son (her being a transsexual and all) so she was okay with the weirdity of it all, but the kid didn't know about her secret and he was fatally scarred by it all.
She also slept with one of the the Nipt/Tuck doc's oldest son.

(1,999 posts)I loved it, even though I didn't think the writing was as good as it could have been.

(1,945 posts)I wanted to quit a couple of times but the plot kept me guessing as to who the 'real' bad guy was, so I stuck with it to find out. (I didn't figure it out ahead of time) I'm not much into the vampire/werewolf genre, especially the way it's being done these days, so I may not be the best judge of this one. I'd say it was good but didn't like it as much as the other commenters here.
I didn't know of Landon Liboiron or Bill Skarsgard before this and I liked them, so it was a nice intro to their work. I liked that the Roman character was not totally bad. At first I just expected to dislike him completely as the one dimensional a-hole spoiled rich guy, but the way it played out, he was a bit more complex and did have some redeeming qualities, eg his love for his sister. (I kept thinking Bill Skarsgard should be the son of Steve Buscemi instead of Stellan Skarsgard!!)
Famke is beautiful and played the seductive, creepy mom well, but I thought her accent was atrocious and it really distracted me when she was onscreen.
I am glad that Netflix is trying to do it's own series' like this one and HoC (which I thought was REALLY good). If I remember right, they have another series already done, or planned. And I like being able to watch the whole series as I want to--broken up or in a marathon.

(4,544 posts)I'm glad we did! I won't read the rest of this thread because I still have 2 more episodes to watch and don't want to be spoiled, but I'll be back when we finish it! I'm taking it that the finale must live up to the rest if you're saying all this after you've finished it.

Silver Gaia
(4,544 posts)until just now anyway. We thought the finale was great. It tied up the current storyline while leaving enough dangling threads for a second season to latch onto. Speaking of a second season, sounds like it may happen.
If you enjoyed the first season of Hemlock Grove, theres a good chance that a second season will go into development. Netflixs chief content officer, Ted Sarandos, recently spoke to THR about the possibility of a second season: Were hearing the pitches for the second season with plotlines and storylines now.

I liked that it was a fresh take on the vampire and werewolf mythology. I also liked the little touches tossed in regarding the gypsies and India. Anthropologists now believe that there are connections between gypsies and the Indus Valley culture (as in the gypsies were a nomadic people who came out of the Indus Valley, and thus, originated from Vedic culture), so it made sense to me for those little touches to be there, and I liked that they did it. I had suspicions about Christina, so was not surprised when the killer turned out to be her, but it didn't upset me that I figured it out. Shelly showing up in the chapel surprised me, though! (WTF did they do to her to bring her back as a baby? Did they put glow worm DNA in her? WHY? That was weird.) Roman turning out to be a vampire didn't surprise me, either, but how it happened is an interesting new take on the genre, IMO. I liked it. I also liked that his creepy control-freak mama didn't win. Maybe he'll be different in a good way? Maybe? My favorite character was Peter's mom, Lynda. She was always solid as a rock for all the kids, even when things were chaos all around them. Good mama. What else... let's see... Vampire Diaries (only MUCH darker) meets Twin Peaks meets American Horror Story meets Rosemary's Baby meets... what else? There were lots of influences, but not in a bad way at all.

(17,742 posts)That was intense. I'm not even sure of what I just watched. I had to watch the final episode twice and I'm STILL not sure what happened or who is what or what is who and where everyone is. Yikes.
But pretty awesome show!!
