Lars and the Real Girl - both hilarious and moving

OK, it sounds super-hokey, but it is wonderful.

Lars and the Real Girl
2007PG-131hr 46m

When a delusional loner buys a life-sized sex doll over the Internet, promptly falls in love with her and starts telling people that she's his girlfriend, his brother and sister-in-law decide it's time to intervene.

We are about to embark on a re-watch of Six Feet Under, finish up the latest season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, as we wait for the mid March set of releases.

"Blow Up Dolls" out there on the market. "Dark Haired Barbie Doll Types"

And me and my partner just watched on our ancient VHS Tape last weekend the Chevy Chase/Goldie Hahn Movie: "Foul Play!"

It has an incredible performance with Dudley Moore doing a Disco Dance with Blow Up Sex Doll while Goldie is looking out the window for her possible Assassin.

"Foul Play" is a movie we go to over and over again for just pure zany but, in a way political, thriller, charming quirky comedy. Always makes me feel good after I've watched it.

Check it Out...not on Netflix but if you can find through another source it's charming. Certainly not to Everyone's Taste...but for some in the 45 and Over....it's a good revisit for that light hearted time when there Disco was king...and things were not so harshly realistic as now.. the kind of comedy that appealed to some of us then.

BTW...No Spoiler but it involves a plot about the Pope. How timely can you get!

LOVED IT! Don't know how we missed it when it came out except the snip in our newspaper made it sound like it was guy who was "sex-obessed with a Blow Up Doll" and it sounded too Porn for our tastes. (I know...not trashing folks who like porn...but, we are fine in that department and it isn't our taste to go out and see)...so we missed it. Also we live in a Fundie Christian area and our Movie Reviewer for Newspaper is terrible because of his own problems.

Anyway....this was a delightful movie...and truly a psychological journey done with an incredibly insightful touch. It had us laughing hysterically through much of it ...but the "inner self of us" were going through the agony of Lars and his working through his disfunctional childhood with his family and his relationship with his brother and his wife who were now going to have a baby.

Reminded us of Coen Brothers Films where you laugh, cry and if you don't do that you remember the wacky humor way beyond when you leave the theater...thinking about it.

Anyway...sorry to ramble but, its one of the best "current movies" (I know current to us is 7-10 yrs. old though for us...lols) that we've seen that we felt was a AAA+ for the humanity of it all...

Apparently it was nominated for Academy Award for SCREENPLAY.
The Actors deserve HUGE KUDOS for carrying out that movie with such incredible light touch that they never over-acted in what could have been seen as an incredibly silly and unrealistic premise...that a guy could get a whole TOWN to accept his Blow Up Doll to be more SOCIAL that HIM! Tender scenes..very down to earth acting in such a bizarre script situation.

Anyway...it was an incredibly beautiful movie with much depth and I thank you for recommending it. It gave me hope for humanity in some screwball way the way it was done.

it was good....better than good.

We were laughing so hard at points that we had to pause it. And I agree that at other times it is profoundly sad and infused with all kinds of meaning. Ryan Gosling was genius.

I saw the Coen brothers similarity as well very early in the movie.

Perhaps the premise is why so few seemed to see it - it's hard to describe in a way that doesn't make it sound tawdry.

But you didi an excellent job and, again, I am so glad you enjoyed it.

I just want to hug Lars, but well, you know. And the townsfolk? I'd like to be part of that community, harsh winters and all...
