Edinburgh University researchers found skin exposed to UV rays released a compound that lowers blood pressure

The health benefits of exposing skin to sunlight may far outweigh the risk of developing skin cancer, according to scientists.

Edinburgh University research suggests sunlight helps reduce blood pressure, cutting heart attack and stroke risks and even prolonging life.

UV rays were found to release a compound that lowers blood pressure.

Researchers said more studies would be carried out to determine if it is time to reconsider advice on skin exposure.

Just saying skin cancer is from the sun is too simplistic. Factory workers have some of the highest rates of melanoma - lots of chemicals (PCB's, pesticides, etc.) are implicated along with radiation. My dad died of melanoma and he was never in the sun. He stayed up on the boardwalk in the shade while my mom and I "baked in the sun."

Chickens that are free range and run around in the sun (like my chickens) have vit d in their eggs unlike chickens who never see the sun.
