Anyone here have isolated systolic hypertension?

My diastolic ranges from mid 70s to low 80s but my systolic is almost always over 135 ranging from around 130 to mid 140s.
I have been chronically angered over The WH occupant. Do I need to watch less news? Trouble is my live with gf likes to watch it a lot. I am a very active 72 year old (hike/jog, swim, lift weights, dance), I sleep well, eat well and take bp med. This just started a few to several months ago. I don't have any pain to speak of either. Perplexed.

There are a lot of factors that go into BP, and emotion can play a part. If you think the still_one Jun 2018 #2

frustration from the news is playing a part, then just go into the other room if your GF wants to watch news, read a book, listen to music, take a nice walk, and see what happens.

However, it seems you are saying your systolic has been trending up, and it might not be prudent to just write it off to being frustrated with the news.

Consider a consult with your physician, perhaps have some blood work done to check kidney function, lipids, and other parameters, etc.

As people get older peripheral resistance can increase, and systolic can become much more of a factor than the diastolic. The pulse pressure, (the difference between the systolic and diastolic), reflects this.

They may need to add another BP med or increase the one you are taking if reasonable measures don't seem to be controlling your systolic readings.

I wouldn't ignore it though, and discuss it with your physician, especially in regard to the new BP standards which were based on a large randomized trial.
