Related: About this forumAnybody else using TENS relief patches for relief of chronic pain?
I'm going to arrange one to see if it works on my post-herpetic neuralgia. I'm calling tomorrow to see if this can be set up in the office of my pain management specialist. It has gone on for too long and it is constant, twinging me painfully while I'm driving or just reading while sitting.
Opiods do NOT work on nerve pain.
I get the feeling that modern medicine is late to the game in nerve pain management therapies. This looks promising. I hope it works. I can't be alone with this kind of pain.

(10,495 posts)I use it mainly at the peak times and it helps to drown out the pain somewhat. The best pain medication for nerve pain is marijuana. I learned that on visits to California and Colorado, I just wished they would legalize it in Texas.
I wish you luck in your pain relief!

(15,596 posts)I don't have chronic pain, but TENS has given me relief from various shoulder and back pains & strains I've had through the years.

(111,277 posts)(yeah, the neck bone's connected to the back bone and when one goes snap, everything screws up) and sometimes slapping that TENS on is the only way I can get anything done, even with Ultram on board.
What it does is scramble the transmission of pain impulses along the nerve fibers so that a lot less gets through to the brain. Often people can leave it on for an hour and then get hours of relative relief.
It's certainly worth a try.

(15,682 posts)(for my hip replacement) and it really does help. But I think it is more muscle being stimulated, and ultimately calmed. Gabapentin is still about the best thing I've found for nerve pain. Wish I could offer more help/insight. Nerve pain is just awful.

(6,452 posts)As with anything, YMMV, and results are different for different people. It may also be more or less effective, depending upon the actual underlying condition.
Good article here that seems to provide an overview of the TENS products from both a skeptic and a believer POV. It's generally written from a skeptic POV, but allows that there is some preliminary evidence that TENS treatment may provide relief to some patients.
