Swaddling resurgence 'damaging hips', surgeon warns

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-24710090

Parents are risking their babies' health because of a surge in the popularity of swaddling, according to an orthopaedic surgeon.

The technique involves binding the arms and legs with blankets and is used to help calm a baby and prevent crying.

But Prof Nicholas Clarke, of Southampton University Hospital, said swaddling was damaging developing hips.

The Royal College of Midwives and other experts advised parents to avoid tightly swaddling a child.

It does calm newborns but it stops working well very quickly and it's off to onesies.

Everybody I know brought a burrito baby home from the hospital. It was always loose enough for the kid to move its legs and work its arms free.

We all know how accurate they have been over the last 100 years.

First they scare all mothers to death about everything and then they tell the mothers any problems with baby are because they are to anxious. Why do they keep doing this?

The native American Grandmother's new initiative have it right to take back their place in calming the waters of new motherhood and helping raise a better generation of humans than the ones currently in charge.
