Republican attacks on Susan Rice are partly based on sexism and racism.

Certainly the attacks on Susan Rice by the right wing are motivated partly by their goal of blaming the Obama administration for what happened in Benghazi. The attacks on her are probably also partly focused on encouraging the White House to nominate John Kerry for the position of Secretary of State, so that Scott Brown (R-idiot) might be elected to the Senate again. But let's not forget the obvious - Republicans are furious at the thought that a smart, strong African American woman might be made Secretary of State. It would be ok if she were Republican (Condi Rice), but she's not. She's a Democrat.

Female African American Democrat = Republican rage.

got nominated, I would not be surprised if the MA legislature changes the rule about the governor appointing a person to fill in for the rest of the term of the departing Senator back. We only don't like those appointments when a Republican governor is in office!!

The sheer amount of hatred is incredible. It's like a Pandora's box of the nation's seething troglodyte Id just came pouring out.

The hatred is actually scary. The really sexist, racist and homophobic types are exposing themselves. It is very ugly.

Sorry, that is just the way I see it. They are losing their minds over the election results and will stop at nothing to discredit this administration. Very sad.

Certainly they're trying to pay chess with the MA senate seat. And they are desperate to find a way o attach a "..gate" suffix to "Benghazi"

But any time you see this sort of concerted effort, its usually because someone is perceived as a threat to some entrenched interest. Right now the GOP is desperately scanning their ranks for appropriately right wing, anti choice women -who aren't Michelle Bachmann- to put forth as their "new" face. demographically, they got clobbered in this last election.

Rice is a smart, successful AA Woman. Damn right she is threatening to them.

It's all those strategic reasons, but it's also the usual racism and sexism that characterizes the Republican Party. I thought it would be a good idea to mention that out loud.
