The Patriarchs clearly feared women. Why else go through all the effort and expense to dominate them? Any woman who would not submit to being an obedient wife (or remain a perpetual virgin) was deemed a whore to be raped or a monster to be killed.
Sadly, that fear is still with us and can be seen all over the world, especially in the “more traditional cultures” but also in modern America. How else can you explain the rape, violence against and even murder of women by men?
