FLORENCE A national motherhood group is jumping into the fray over whether a Northern Kentucky city is illegally discriminating against a pregnant police officer by not allowing her to work a light duty assignment.

MomsRising.org has collected more than 10,000 petitions urging the city to change its policy, which will be hand-delivered to the Florence Government Center at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The national group boasts more than 1 million members.

They include Colette Cole, 62, a soon-to-be grandmother from Villa Hills who believes some public pressure might force Florence to rethink its policy.

"We're hopeful," Cole said. "If folks are willing to shine a light on the issue, and if (city officials) realize the issue is not going away, it needs to be addressed, and it needs to be done fairly - you can't discriminate. It's just not done in this day and age. Justice is all we're asking for."....
