Half Of Texas Abortion Clinics Close After Restrictions Enacted

Half Of Texas Abortion Clinics Close After Restrictions Enacted
By Carrie Feibel
Fri July 18, 2014

In a little over a year, the number of clinics that provide abortions in Texas fell to 20 from 41, and watchdogs say that as few as six may be left by September.

Many clinics closed because of a requirement that doctors at those clinics obtain hospital admitting privileges within a certain radius of the clinic, and many doctors couldn't comply. The requirement took effect last November. This week marks the first anniversary of the state law that started it all.

Bitter fighting over the law last summer propelled state senator Wendy Davis into the national spotlight, and she is now running for Texas governor on the Democratic ticket.

"We're seeing delays," said Heather Busby, executive director of NARAL Pro-Choice Texas. "We're seeing people being pushed further into pregnancy, having to leave the state, having to drive and sleep in their cars in parking lots because of these barriers to access."

Six, possibly, by September? For the entire state? Don't try to tell me there's not a war on women. And I thought Roe v. Wade was law. Absolutely sickening how they are chipping away at hard-won rights and getting away with it. Very depressing. All the more reason to VOTE!!!

Then we've got to get our asses out there, door to door, to make sure folks know what's at stake. The situation is critical.

We need to get out the vote and make it very clear that we support access to safe and legal abortion. Anything less is an assault on women's rights and health.

NC women need to show this pompous ass that THEIR voices are the ones that matter!

Looks like their really needs to be some housecleaning in the NCGA! Unbelievable!

Sounds like NC women have their work cut out for them.

If you ignore your rights, they'll go away.

On facebook, making phone calls and tweeting we had over 900 women dressed in pink at the #NCGA the next morning. They refused to hear one second of testimony and the bill passed. I am sick, a deeply nauseating sickness. Few of the young women I try to educate about this had any idea this happened. Many are angry. Rightfully so.

Despite these idiots ignoring all of you. I educate young women on these issues as much as I can. Ans, yes, when they know what is going on they are pissed off!

That said, voting at this point in time is very important. Corporate media - always stating that single women and only single women can make a "change" in 2014. Bullshit. Married women knows that HL crap is negative women. Men know it as well. How can a man have fun in the summertime knowing that "ladies" he has sex with will get peggers huh?

Oh wait, GOPers are pro- non - sex.

There was also purple there. But it was organized by the skin of our teeth in the middle of the night. It's not like we had time or say the need for personal tailors or stylists.

Don't have the link, but saw it 2-3 days ago, that would make every health clinic in the country follow the same laws as those placed on any abortion clinics.

That would end these state's messing around.
