1. K/R but I wish it was more clear that that's not a murder knife, but more of a scalpel.

Not that they are so careful as to use a scalpel, but the image connotes other things, like stabbing or murder.

Here's another icon I've seen, still not quite right but possibly closer to representing Female Genital Mutilation:

5. Some photos show the deed, with the girl screaming while getting cut up in a dirty hut by an old

person holding a razor.

You can also see healed crotch shots of a FGM III with infibulation. It's bizzarre looking in my opinion, and it looks marginally functional.

These are the photos people should see, even though it feels sort of invasive to look at someone's crotch. They really do cut everything off and sew her back up, leaving just a tiny hole for urine and menstruation. I think that for a lot of us here in the west, it is just too much for us to wrap our minds around. And then to consider the bloody losss of virginity (it must be a horrible bloodbath), a lifetime of lousy sex, complicated childbirth, and then having to be sewn back up again. Not to mention all the unnecessary infections and pain.

Most of us have seen a circumcised penis (up close and personal ), but not many of us have seen a healed FGM crotch. More people should see what one looks like!

Anyone who says "yeah but male circumcision..." can be shown the error of their thinking with one look.

Time to shine a light on body parts that don't see much sunlight. How else will people realize how extreme FGM is?
