I said sometimes she gets caught up in her fascination with "teh gay" to the exclusion of everything else and that not everyone -- reading straight girls like me who have huge girl crushes on her -- give that much of a shit about 20 minutes on the discredited doctor who was behind "pray away teh gay."

She did the same thing -- overdid things -- with DADT, DOMA, et cetera.

Please don't put words in my mouth. That's just nasty.

Think of it as CIVIL RIGHTS.

Please do not reference the importance of LGBT issues as a "fascination" or less important than other issues, issues which get plenty of coverage through the whole day, in here. This is a protected group. You may get away with bullshit outside of here, unfortunately, but you will not be given a chance to peddle it here. You will be blocked.

Thank you for respecting our home and our family.

Not many (if any) mainstream news journalists with a big microphone give detailed reports on the right-wing anti-gay agenda. I mean, I really can't think of any. Not everyone knows the things that DUers know. She fills that large gap in the public discourse.

Don't like Rachel's activism/reporting/advocacy/education on behalf of some of the most marginalized and oppressed people in the world? Then don't watch her. I'm sure Leslie "Teh Wolf" Blitzer might be able to meet your journalistic needs.

And while I'm at it -- how is it possible that I can sit through romantic "opposite sex" comedies and enjoy them completely? How is it that I can watch male and female courtship rituals in all manner of media -- and not once feel the need to complain about it? If you have no empathy for LGBT people then *. *. *. Got it?

I recognize that you are new to the website and I would like to welcome you. There is something we need to discuss however. The group you're posting in right now is the LGBT Group. It is what we call a "safe haven" group. That is, our members have an expectation that they will be safe posting in our group.

I am one of the hosts of this group and it is my job to ensure that the group remains safe and friendly for all of its members. Getting to my point, I would greatly appreciate if you would refrain from using statements like "teh gays" and speaking in our protected group about your belief that there has been too much discussion of DADT and DOMA in any sense.

These opinions (which you are entitled to, yet which I believe are incorrect) are not acceptable discussion material in our group because they make some of our members feel unsafe. This we cannot have.

I understand where you are coming from and I don't mean to make it sound like I do not appreciate your personal identity. I do. But we need to ensure that the group feels safe as well. Feel free to post in LGBT if you wish to discuss LGBT issues. I suggest though that care is taken when picking topics that may be unpopular or hurtful to our group members.

Yours,
Fearless

So gay news personalities shouldn't go overboard with their "fascination" over their own community's civil rights. Got it. We should just let straight anchors cover our issues (or not cover them, or cover them in a "fair and balanced" fashion that gives equal footing to bigots).

Got it.

Gosh, it must be hard for you to watch TV with all that coverage of "teh gay" on it.

The poster has been blocked from our group and the original post they made has been alerted on and:

"A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this post at Wed Apr 18, 2012, 11:43 PM, and voted 2-4 to keep it."

I vehemently disagree with this jury decision needless to say.

In the meantime, notice was sent to the poster regarding why they were blocked. The LGBT hosts will follow up with the poster if need be. As far as we are concerned, the situation has been dealt with. I will not lock this thread unless the others hosts suggest it, however if there is nothing important to add, we should make a mental note and move on IMHO.

Have a great evening everyone!

I was the one who sent the alert. This is the jury result:

YOUR COMMENTS:

"teh gay" is being used offensively in this context, used to ridicule LGBT issues and the fact that there's someone (out of barely any) bringing LGBT issues to light. It's like ridiculing Jackie Robinson for being too black as he ran around the bases.

JURY RESULTS

A randomly-selected Jury of DU members completed their review of this alert at Wed Apr 18, 2012, 11:43 PM, and voted 2-4 to LEAVE IT ALONE.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: could be reworded, not a rule breaker tho.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT and said: good alert i read "teh gay" in the same way
had this been worded less insultingly it might have led to a good honest discussion of gay rights coverage in the media.
oh and gay rights are human rights <verdict by swampg8r>

Thank you.

others just don't care at all if others don't have equal rights as long as they have theirs, and maybe a few closet bigots are using the jury system as a petty, anonymous method for causing us harm.

I actually expected the jury to vote to leave it. I thought to myself, "Maybe someone more articulate will alert" and convince the jury to hide. But then I thought, "What if everyone thought that?" because it happens.

because of blocked person's OP in Media I watched Rachel's re-run. Glad I did.

And now, can someone please explain to me what "teh gay" thing is all about. She/He repeated it three times. I guess it is supposed to be an extra layer of insult but someone will need to explain it to me so I can get pissed off if it is necessary.

The original phrase was "teh stoopid" (spelling varies on "stupid&quot and was an insult about being uneducated or dumb. Its common typing error is attributed to this as well.

Didn't really answer the question... let me finish lol... "teh gay" or "teh gays" is a moniker used when describing Republicans uneduated views of LGBT people. It's generally used to mock Republicans as being uneducated. However, in this case the poster uses it to mean gay people in general not as a slight to Republicans.

and the news is a big frickin' deal. The whole "ex-gay" movement rests on Dr. Robert Spitzer's study from 2001 and Dr. Spitzer has now come forward and effectively said "I made a mistake, I'm retracting that study". That's a big frickin' deal. Given where gay politics is in the US, Dr. Spitzer's retraction might not make much difference. The proof that homosexuality is inate (the "gay brain&quot three years ago didn't make much difference either but it was perfectly reasonable for Rachel to devote twenty minutes to the subject.
