Today is mine and Mr. BTA's ten year anniversary. TIN! Really? The modern version is diamond, but that ain't happening, we aren't that gay. LOL!
For anyone who thinks that you'll never find love or that right person, s/he is out there. I didn't find love, it found me!

I consider it a big achievement that doesn't happen in a vaccuum.
I should know. I ended my marriage on the day of the 10th anniversary, because it could not be saved. I'm happy for you both.

(3,310 posts)We just crossed 16 on the 12th of this month. I never thought I'd find a man who would love me back the way I can love a man. After that last ex damnear put me in the ER again I was through with men, through with love, and came to a place of peace in myself where I knew I could be whole on my own. If that meant being by myself (and a couple of good dogs) the rest of my life, I was good with it -- I had learned to love myself as a friend.
Then that hunky li'l side of beefcake wandered into my view and quickly became my very best friend. He still is the one I adore with all my heart.
Here's wishing you two continued joy, love, and friendship. What we have is what I wish for everyone to have.

I was in a very bad place before I met him. I was just starting to come back around and he snuck in, and took me away. I have always had to care for myself when it came to relationships; never felt protected. I do with him.

(3,310 posts)Rob and I had both just come out of really, really bad relationships. Needless to say we were both skittish. The sex was incredible, but we found we enjoyed cuddling and talking before and after just as much. We both understood how fragile trust is and we resolved always to be friend first, no matter what. We're still each other's best friend, confessor, confident, support, and fan.
Yeah, protected, that's a good word. I know who's always loving my heart; respecting it and taking care of it. There's no substitute.
I write wedding ceremonies all the time and a theme I often use is that real love is actually pretty darn rare. There's a big difference between loving unconditionally/being loved unconditionally and "...just being in love which any fool can do...". Anybody is lucky to find it if they ever get it at all. Too bad there are too many people who don't appreciate it when they get it.
You guys get it. You guys got it. Keep holding on to each other. As I also often say in weddings, "... as you go through life, there will be no better friend than the one who stands before you today...".
Mazel tov!!

(53,957 posts)I got him a tin "planter" with a fleur-de-lis topper, a reminder of our times in New Orleans. I also got him a metal wall hanging, also with a fleur-de-lis... "FAMILY: A house is a made of wood. A home is made of love." I thought it was nice.
