Here Are 17 Of The Trans Women Murdered This Year. Say Their Names.

As Mock notes, this number already exceeds last year's complete total of documented murders according to the National Coalition of Anti-Violence programs. According to an article published by The Guardian on Monday, the total of reported murders is now at 18.

This alarming number recently led transgender actress and activist Laverne Cox to declare a "State of Emergency" in the transgender community, stating that "your life should not be in danger simply for being who you are." And while this disturbing spike in the murder of trans women of color, who are disproportionately affected by violence, has caught the attention of many major news outlets, cable networks have remained remarkably silent.

"These woman are more than just a compilation of names and ages and stories of violence and trauma -- they are people," Mock says at the end of the segment. "People living at a vulnerable intersection of race, gender and class. People existing in a culture where they fell in between the cracks of racial justice, feminist and LGBT movements. People whose names are only spoken by the majority of us when they can no longer respond. Today we learn their stories and say their names, not out of obligation but out of recognition that these 17 women had value, had purpose and were loved. And they will be missed."

Just speechless. Beyond reprehensible. And republidipshits still won't evolve to protect the vulnerable aside from those who encourage crap like this.

I have listened to a local preacher do just that for years, calling on Christians to step up and do something about the sin that's ruining our country.

It's only a matter of time before someone responds with violence.

My own past comes with an ugly encounter with Mr Godley Hatemonger himself, Fred Phelps. His local relatives, after holding a truly sick, reprehensible hate-fest directed uniquely at me, rallied up my entire small home-town's ire so much that I ran away from the bullying (much of it quite physical) at 16 years old. My pseudo-religious mother, redneck dad and equally ignorant school faculty did absolutely nothing to protect or curb my abuse/neglect combo. I also received genuine death threats from several of my classmates.
To this day I deal with multiple PTSD issues and limited resources stemming from a homeless start to my young adulthood. Brief synopsis of a long story, matter of fact a novel in the works.
But I feel it's past time the hatemongers were shut the hell up. And there's nothing like a class action lawsuit to do exactly that. I haven't ever looked into it, but have thought about starting up a website to collect potential plaintiffs in such. Most certainly first on my list of defendants would be that idiotic Phelps bunch.

I was abused too but I'm straight so it was nothing like the nightmare that was your childhood.

What made you stronger has broken many others.

I hope you finish that novel and are wildly successful, because you know what they say about that being the best revenge.

You never hear the mainstream media talking about them.

Very moving, everyone should see the video.

As a queer black woman myself I struggle daily having to deal with the critique of White America. It gets hard sometimes, but I know I have to push on so that the trans black community isn't lost. It brings be hope knowing that one day the US will cease to be such a white male Christian dominated nation and that the minorities in power will ensure equality.
