Pope’s approval rating plummets as ‘gay-friendly’ image wears off

A Gallup poll shows that as his LGBT-friendly image slowly falls away, the Pope is quickly losing favor with the general public in the West.

The percentage of Americans who see the Pope in a favorable light has dropped from 76 percent in February 2014, to just 59 percent this month.

Meanwhile, there has been a sharp rise in those who disapprove of the Pope – from 9 percent to 16 percent.

Among liberals his approval rating was down 14 points to 68 percent – while among conservatives it was down further, dropping 27 points to 45 percent.

bought and paid for, in order to shape opinion, rather than faithfully record it. The way questions are framed can have a remarkable bearing on the ultimate findings.

Under capitalism, everything is for sale. Mind you, under Communism, government isn't always subject to democratic elections. And just to complicate matters, in South America, the kleptocrat-oligarchs will do their darnedest to make sure they're not democratic - only in their favour!

What a world we live in! In the US elections with their privatized, patented machines, I think, elections are a metaphor for the capitalist demi-monde, rather than a gauge of the will of the people.

That I'm not the only one who remembers the vote-stealing mechanisms (thanks HAVA) are still in place.

It was wishful thinking hype from people who heard he was a "liberal".

I don't remember anything actually "gay friendly." He's pretty good as popes go, but how much is that saying?
