Gay Men’s Chorus to Visit Cuba, Use Music to Raise LGBT Awareness on the Island

The task that brought Youth for Understanding (YFU) into existence was an immense one – to build understanding between the United States and Germany after World War II.

More specifically, the goal was to break the cycle of hopelessness that had set upon Germany’s youth after the war by bringing them to the U.S. to live with a family and attend high school for a year.

“There was great power in people-to-people exchanges,” President and CEO of YFU Michael E. Hill told me. “When we bring two people from different cultures together, they are able to do a whole host of things of great things when they return to their countries.”

And now, YFU is teaming up with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington for their next big challenge: to raise LGBT awareness in a nation that has only recently begun opening up to the United States.

It is a nation that has also banned and punished homosexuality in the past.

Very professional production, perfectly directed, perfectly choreographed. Wonderful night.

How anyone could reject them, I don't know.
