No surprises here. He's still a pope, if less of an asshole than the previous pope.

1. A kinder, gentler bigotry

I like Pope Francis, but his effort to "soften the tone" of Catholic theological bigotry is beginning to smell of hypocrisy. If you promote secular policy that opposes basic human rights for gay people, it really makes no difference if you are a kindly, smiling old pope or a foaming at the mouth wingnut Republican. In fact, I'd almost prefer to deal with the mouth-foaming types.

2. Benedict was a snarly looking fuck, but he and Francis hold all the same positions on LGBT people

and Benny wrote even more extensively than Frank on the economic issues which DU's Frankie Fans claim as reason for promoting him. Benny wrote about globalization, income inequity and poverty just like his fellow anti gay and anti choice activist, Francis.

5. I really wanted him to be better than his predecessors. Especially as someone raised Catholic.
